TEAM LIGHTHILL, creating the world's best whiskey
Sangjae Park, CEO of LIGHTHILL, is a fermentation researcher. He loves analyzing the fermentation process and creating magical results. Constantly merging traditional methods with new technologies, he develops innovative machines and processes essential for fermentation. His unique talent brought South Korean craft beer to a global level when he won the NHC (National Homebrew Competition), the world’s largest beer brewing competition, in 2017. LIGHTHILL whiskey is not the culmination of his vision but the beginning.
"I believe that as the aging process progresses, you gain some things and lose others. There are aspects that are enhanced through distillation, while others are diminished. In short, it's a matter of character." This is a favorite passage from a whiskey essay. At the Distillery of Light, I want to create something special that is unique to K-Whiskey.
Barry MacAffer, who started as a maltman, rose to become the head of the Laphroaig distillery in just 11 years, a testament to his remarkable career. His deep understanding of the production process and passion for whiskey have driven him to this key role despite his young age. Barry, along with the Lighthill R&D team, will blend the tradition of Islay with a fresh, youthful approach to create K-Whiskeys that can compete on the global stage.
The LIGHTHILL R&D team consists of brewing experts from various fields dedicated to creating better-tasting spirits. With a grand vision of producing world-class whiskey, they uphold the fundamentals of traditional Scottish whiskey while charting a unique course toward a distinctively Korean flavor. Every day, they embark on new experiments, exploring the vast sea of flavors.
